Start with stem compatibility

Switch stem standards decide which keycaps fit. Pick the stem before styling.

Identify the stem

MX/Choc/Topre/Alps all require different caps.

Match profile + material

Keep sculpt and legends simple for clarity.

Confirm clearance

Low-profile boards need shorter caps.

Publish compatibility

State stem support on the share page.

Switch compatibility overview

Use the table to pick the right stem standard before designing.

Switch pages

Open a page to get prompts and a Studio preset.

MX stem

The default for most mechanical keyboards (Cherry MX & clones).

Kailh Choc

Low-profile switches require Choc-compatible keycaps.

Topre

Topre mount keycaps are different from MX by default.

Alps

Vintage stem standard used by Alps/Matias ecosystem.

FAQ

Common questions about switch stems and keycap compatibility.

Do all keycaps fit all switches?

No. Compatibility depends on the stem/mount type. MX stem is the most common; Topre/Alps/Choc usually require their own keycaps.

If I have MX switches, do I need “Cherry MX keycaps” specifically?

Most keycaps labeled as “MX compatible” will fit. The keycap profile/material is usually the bigger decision.

Can I still use Studio if my board is not MX stem?

Yes. Use the prompt pack to specify the mount type (Topre/Alps/Choc) so renders match your direction.

Switch checklist

Avoid tiny legends for small profiles.
