PRINT GUIDE / UPDATED 12 OCT 2026
From checked model to your first print.
Practical steps for this original 1u MX candidate. Software checks are complete; physical results need your printer and switch.
Know what has been checked.
Preview and STL export share the same triangle mesh. The original shell is 18 × 18 × 9 mm before decoration. The cross socket starts at 4.10 mm total width and 1.17 mm arm width; your selected allowance is added to both total dimensions. These dimensions are a candidate starting point, not a promise of fit on every MX switch.
✓ Closed manifold mesh, one connected body
✓ Non-degenerate triangles and positive volume
✓ Selected software layer cross-sections
○ External slicer, printer settings and physical fit pending
STL files have no unit metadata. Explicitly import them as millimetres and confirm an 18 mm footprint.
Print the calibration set first.
The studio builds five independent shell samples with total allowances of 0.00, 0.05, 0.10, 0.15 and 0.20 mm. Download each STL. Label the prints by filename; the model does not emboss a calibration label. Keep your material, orientation and settings consistent.
Open calibration tools ↗Inspect every layer in your slicer.
Choose a profile appropriate for your printer and material. This release does not provide a validated universal layer height, nozzle size or resin exposure. Inspect the 1.2 mm skirts, 1.6 mm roof, bridge over the cavity and fine socket features. Compare orientations and supports in your slicer; supporting the cross socket may change fit or damage it during removal.
Avoid assuming that a mesh pass means a successful print. Check missing thin lines, unsupported regions and first-layer stability. For resin prints, follow the resin and printer safety instructions, complete washing and curing, and avoid skin contact with uncured resin.
Test gently on a spare switch.
Allow the part to cool or fully cure. Remove supports and inspect the socket for debris, cracking or deformation. Try the loosest sample first. Align the cross socket without twisting and press gently. Stop if insertion needs force; do not hammer a keycap onto a switch.
- Retention: seats without force and does not fall off.
- Travel: press and release through the full switch stroke.
- Clearance: check the housing, plate and neighbouring keys.
- Removal: gently remove without cracking the socket.
If every sample is tight, adjust printer compensation or test a larger allowance within the studio limit. If every sample is loose, inspect scaling, material shrinkage and the switch dimensions before changing the model. No single allowance can be guaranteed for all printers.
Keep the evidence with your design.
Sign in to save a private project and record the printer, material, layer height, nozzle size, fit, breakage and interference. Mark unprinted models as not tested. A fit report is your observation, not a certification for other users.
